PANews reported on November 20 that according to The Information, OpenAI co-founder and board director Ilya Sutskever told employees that although OpenAI executives tried to bring Sam Altman back, he would no longer serve as the company’s CEO. Sam Altman will not return to OpenAI after a weekend of talks with the board that fired him on Friday, other executives and top investors, people familiar with the matter said. Sutskever also said that Emmett Shear, co-founder of the video streaming website Twitch, will take over as interim CEO.
The decision could exacerbate a crisis triggered by the board’s sudden ouster of former CEO Sam Altman and former president Greg Brockman on Friday. Brockman’s resignation follows the resignations of three senior researchers. Brockman threatened to trigger a wider wave of departures.
