Yesterday, Elon Musk’s introduction to Threads, the new microblogging app that Meta intends to become Twitter’s main rival, responded within hours, as the tycoon who controls the social network A lawyer for his company, X Corp, threatened to sue Mark Zuckerberg’s company. Companies misappropriate company trade secrets and intellectual property to develop their own platforms.
In a letter sent to Zuckerberg by Alex Spiro, an attorney at Quinn Emanuel LLP, on behalf of X Corp, Twitter’s owner accused Meta Platforms of “systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets and other Twitter intellectual property.”
Lawyers for X Corp allege that the company that owns Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp hired dozens of former Twitter employees who “had and continue to have access to Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information” and “deliberately” assigned them several Months to develop the “Threads” app, which he calls a “mimetic”.
In that sense, it accused Meta of seeking to speed up the development of “Threads” by using Twitter trade secrets and other intellectual property “in violation of state and federal law, and the obligations of Twitter employees.”
Accordingly, the letter warns Twitter of its intention to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate steps to cease using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.
“Twitter reserves all rights, including the right to seek civil and injunctive relief without notice, to prevent Meta from retaining, disclosing or further using its intellectual property,” the lawyer warned in the letter. “Semafor” first obtained access right.
