2 foreign tourists killed in Kenyan nature reserve crash

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Two foreign tourists, a German and a Swiss, died after the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and overturned in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, police said Sunday. A tourist got stuck in the mud and veered off the road on Saturday, police said. Another tourist was injured and two others (a German and a Swiss) escaped unharmed. They were part of a tour group, but it was unclear who was driving the vehicle. The injured tourists were airlifted to a hospital in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, Masai Mara chief warden Stephen Ole Minin said. Police spokeswoman Resila Onyango said the accident was under investigation. The Masai Mara National Reserve is a popular tourist destination for the annual migration of wildebeest from Tanzania’s Serengeti. The effects of climate change are being felt due to five consecutive rainy seasons with little vegetation and less than normal rainfall recorded over the past two years.
